Rehabilitation & reinforment of the access road to the Tiko Port
Contract No. 20/M/GG/CIPM/PAL/2023, awarded May 22, 2024, following deliberation No. 00190/23/PAL Board of Directors, August 18, 2023. This project improves the main road linking the Port of Tiko to the town of Tiko, which is vital for transporting goods to and from the port.
- What’s being done: A 3 km stretch of road is being rebuilt with durable interlocking pavement blocks, proper drainage on both sides, public lighting, and road signage. The works also include demolitions, earthworks, and other supporting structures.
- Why it matters: Previously, poor road conditions slowed down cargo movement and increased transport costs. By upgrading the road, trucks and vehicles can move more efficiently and safely.
- Impact: This strengthens the logistics chain, reduces delays, and improves safety for drivers and pedestrians. It also makes the port more accessible, boosting trade and local economic activity.
- Status: Over half of the work is complete (53.65%), with final delivery scheduled for January 2026.
Maritime Signalling at PAL (Ports of Tiko, Bota, and Idenau)
Contract No. 16/M/GG/CIPM/PAL/2023, awarded May 22, 2024, following deliberation No. 00191/23/PAL Board of Directors, August 18, 2023. This project is about improving navigation safety across three ports by installing modern maritime signalling systems.
- What’s being done: New buoys, lanterns, traffic lights, masts, towers, and a centralized control center are being supplied and installed. Training is also provided to staff to operate and maintain the equipment.
- Why it matters: Ships rely on clear signals to navigate safely, especially when approaching or leaving a port. Without proper signalling, there’s a higher risk of accidents, collisions, or delays.
- Impact: With modern signalling, vessels can move more safely and efficiently, aligning the Port Authority of Limbe with international maritime standards. This boosts confidence among shipping companies and strengthens the ports’ reputation.
- Status: About 30.12% of the work is complete, with full delivery expected by January 2026.
Rehabilitation & Extension of the Idenau Port Terminal Quay
Contract No. 18/M/GG/CIPM/PAL/2023, awarded May 22, 2024, following deliberation No. 00189/23/PAL Board of Directors, August 18, 2023. This project focuses on modernizing the quay at the Idenau Port Terminal, which is where ships dock to load and unload good.
- Objective: Modernize and extend 120 meters of quay zones (A, B, and C) to improve docking capacity.
- What’s being done: The quay is being refurbished and extended over 120 meters. This includes strengthening the docking zones (A, B, and C), dredging the seabed to make it safer for vessels, and installing new berthing and safety equipment.
- Why it matters: The old quay was limited in capacity and safety. By extending and upgrading it, the port will be able to accommodate more vessels at once, reduce waiting times, and handle larger ships.
- Impact: This means smoother trade operations, better safety for ships and workers, and stronger infrastructure to support the region’s growing maritime activity.
- Status: Work is nearly halfway complete (49.12%) and is expected to finish by January 2026.
Demarcation and Security of Port Authority of Limbe Sites
This project is about formally demarcating and securing land sites that have been declared of public utility for the Port Authority of Limbe (PAL). These sites are critical for the Authority’s long‑term expansion, modernization, and integration into Cameroon’s maritime development strategy.
The demarcation process involves surveying, boundary marking, and legal registration of land parcels to ensure they are protected from encroachment and reserved exclusively for port infrastructure.
Ministerial Order No. 1745/MINDCAF/SG/DI/D14 of August 16, 2022 declaring selected sites of public utility for the Port Authority of Limbe.
Ministerial Order No. 000007/A/MINDCAF/SG/DI/D11/FEN/10 of January 10, 2023 amending and supplementing the previous order to finalize site delimitation and security measures.
The Ministerial Orders cover seven strategic sites across the South‑West Region, each earmarked for specific port‑related developments:
- ISONGO: 1303 hectares
- DOWN BEACH: 53 hectares
- BOTA: 06 hectares
- NGEME: 30 hectares
- CAPE LIMBOH: 18 hectares
- TIKO: 140 hectares
- IDENAU: 21 hectares
Construction of a Modern Administrative Office at Tiko Terminal
To strengthen the working environment for staff at the Tiko Port Terminal, the Port Authority of Limbe undertook the construction of a new administrative office building. This project was designed to provide modern facilities for the Operations Service team, ensuring they have the space and amenities needed to manage port activities efficiently.
Contract Reference: Contract No. 442/MGC/CIPM‑ICAE/PAL/2022, dated September 2, 2022 (Batch No. 01).
- Two‑level building (Ground floor + 1) covering 105 m².
- Eight (08) offices for staff.
- One (01) conference room for meetings and training.
- Hallway and corridors for circulation.
- Waiting room for visitors.
- Restrooms for staff and guests.
- Staircases connecting the two levels.
Construction of a market and office building at the Idenau Terminal
At the Idenau Port Terminal, the Port Authority of Limbe invested in a project to build a new office and warehouse complex, alongside paving works to improve site accessibility. This initiative was aimed at providing staff with modern office spaces and creating storage facilities to support port logistics.
Contract Reference: Contract No. 435/MG‑GCIPM/PAL/2022, notified October 2022.
- 300 m² of paved surface for improved access and operations.
- Two‑level warehouse and office building (Ground floor + 1) covering 484.7 m².
- One (01) conference room for meetings and training.
- Multiple office spaces for administrative staff.
- A warehouse for storage and logistics support.
- Restrooms and circulation areas for staff convenience.
Deployment of a Modern IT & Telephony Infrastructure at PAL
To modernize its operations and strengthen digital security, the Port Authority of Limbe undertook a major IT infrastructural project. This initiative was launched under Contract No. 001/AONO/CIPM/ATPAL/2024 of December 9, 2024, awarded through a national open tender procedure (No. 002/AONO/CIPM/ATPAL/2024 of September 19, 2024). The project covered the supply and deployment of a complete IT and telephony infrastructure, including Microsoft and Kaspersky licenses, for the Transitional Administration of PAL. The project introduced a new generation IT backbone designed to support administrative, operational, and security needs. It included:
- Network Security: Fortigate firewalls, VPN configuration, VLAN setups, and IP addressing plans.
- User & Device Management: Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS), DNS, Group Policy Objects (GPO), and clustering for centralized control.
- Communication Systems: Microsoft Exchange and Outlook Web App (OWA) for PAL’s email system; FortiMail for antispam protection; and an Asterisk server with GSM gateways for seamless mobile‑to‑IP telephony.
- Data Protection: Veeam backup solutions with tape storage and replication to ensure reliable disaster recovery.
