Monitoring and Evaluation of Priority Projects
On 05 March 2026, the Commission for the Monitoring and Evaluation of Priority Projects at the Port Authority of Limbe, financed by the Port Authority of Douala, held a working session at the AT/PAL Conference Hall. Chaired by Mr. Mbotto Edimo, Special Adviser at the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting reviewed financial and physical progress, assessed completion timelines, and examined challenges in implementation. Contractors and control missions, including ESTIA, CAPI, and WAS Marine, participated actively.
This session reflects PAL’s continued commitment to effective monitoring and sound governance of strategic projects, ensuring their successful implementation and reinforcing investor confidence in the port’s development trajectory.
PAL is strategically located on Ambas Bay, opening directly to the Gulf of Guinea. This makes it a natural hub for regional and international trade, complementing Cameroon’s other ports in Douala and Kribi.
Not yet. PAL is currently under a Transitional Administration with oversight from the Port Authority of Douala (PAD). This ensures stability while PAL builds governance structures and prepares for eventual autonomy.
It is a major infrastructure initiative designed to handle hydrocarbons, industrial goods, and heavy cargo. Once complete, it will position Limbe as a leading maritime gateway for West and Central Africa.
Experts project PAL will generate 7,000 direct jobs and more than 5,000 indirect jobs once fully operational. Already, the port has created close to 150 jobs locally, including opportunities for youth.
PAL was created by Decree No. 99/0133 of 1999 and reorganized by Presidential Decree No. 2020/246 of May 05, 2020. These decrees provide the legal foundation for its operations and future autonomy.
PAL strengthens the region’s economy by creating jobs, attracting investment, and providing direct access to international trade routes. It also supports industrial growth, especially in sectors like hydrocarbons and manufacturing.
